Legislation

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Retirement Fund (MWRDRF) is a defined benefit, single employer benefit plan that was established in 1931 by an act of the Illinois General Assembly under Article 13 of the Illinois Pension code [40 ILCS 5/13-101 et seq.] to provide disability and retirement benefits to qualified employees of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC).

Benefits paid by the Fund are regulated by State Law. Read the Statutes that govern the Fund.

In order for any plan provision to change, there must be a change to the laws that govern the Fund. Only the Illinois State Legislature, with the governor's signature, can enact changes to the Fund.

In Section 5/13-808 of the Statutes, the Fund elects to participate in reciprocity with 12 other pension systems in the State of Illinois. The provisions that regulate reciprocal benefits are also covered by the Statutes. Read the Reciprocal Act.

There are also laws that apply to the governance of all public pension funds in Illinois. General provisions include regulation, QILDRO, investments, among many other topics. Read the general provisions.
